Exhibit Your Work

A platform for photography: affordable exhibition opportunities in a welcoming environment for both artists and audiences.

We welcome proposals from emerging, mid-career, and established artists, as well as collectives, curators, and community groups. Our goal is to make exhibiting at Photosynthesis a supportive, professional, and rewarding experience for all involved.

The space functions as a hub for analogue and digital photography, encouraging experimentation, dialogue, and community engagement.

As a non-profit organisation, exhibition fees directly support the ongoing operation and maintenance of the studio, darkroom, and gallery.

Process

Submit an Expression of Interest

Include info about the proposed show: content, representative imagery, duration, dates, artist info, requirements of Photosynthesis volunteers.

Selection by Photosynthesis Curation Panel

The submitted info is reviewed by the Curation Panel who will make a recommendation about the show: accept, revise or decline.

Acceptance and Invitation to Exhibit

If selected, a letter of acceptance will invite you to exhibit in our space.

Exhibit Your Work

Install your show, hold an opening, staff the run days and pack out with help from our volunteers where requested.

Gallery Layout

Artists are encouraged to consider spacing, viewing distance, and visual flow across the wall when planning their exhibition.

Large Wall

The large exhibition wall is the primary space within the gallery. It consists of white-painted MDF panels over a block wall that is 13.8m long with a 2.4m tall white display area.

It is well suited to major solo exhibitions, large group shows, thematic presentations, or installation-style displays.

$175/week

Small Wall

The smaller exhibition area consists of four walls of total length 9 metres with vertical wood panelling over black acoustic felt.

Optional suspended panels can be used, with white or black face: 3x 900mm + 2x 2400mm, all 1200mm tall.

This space is ideal for smaller exhibitions, emerging artists, focused projects, or companion displays.

The alcove shape also lends itself to projection, display on plinths and more creative display approaches.
